Charleston, W.Va. - The West Virginia Board of Education placed two policies out on public comment during its October meeting in Charleston. State Board Policy 2520.4: Social Studies Content Standards and Objectives for West Virginia Schools and State Board Policy 2520.17: Library Media Content Standards and Objectives for West Virginia Schools will be out on public comment for 30 days.

State Board Policy 2520.4 defines the Social Studies Content Standards and Objectives. The policy has been revised to incorporate the Civics/Government requirement in accordance to House Bill 2837, which was enacted during the 2005 Regular Session. Civics/Government was revised to include three Content Standards: Civics/Government, Citizenship and Personal Finance. The Civics/Government course is a graduation requirement for the class of 2008.

State Board Policy 2520.17 establishes Library Media Content Standards and Objectives for all West Virginia students. It provides guidelines for the establishment of high quality library media programs and promotes student information literacy, independent learning and respect for others’ intellectual property, ideas and backgrounds.
