West Virginia Department of Education Hires New Deputy Superintendent of Education Support

Dr. Michael Martirano, State Superintendent of Schools has announced the hiring of Dr. Cynthia Daniel as the Deputy Superintendent of Education Support effective July 1, 2015. The position has been held by Chuck Heinlein who will retire on June 30. Daniel is currently the assistant superintendent for Putnam County Schools and formerly worked with Kanawha County Schools.

In accepting the position Daniel said, "I am honored to have been selected for the position of Deputy Superintendent. With a new accountability system, new standards and a new assessment, I believe we have an opportunity to make significant and positive changes in our West Virginia public schools. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to provide the very best educational opportunities for all of our students and will do my best each and every day to make that happen."

Daniel holds a bachelor's degree in Special Education from the University of Charleston, master’s degrees in School Counseling and Educational Leadership from Marshall University and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Marshall University.
