Transition to Teaching
Main Content

Currently, West Virginia is facing an optimal challenge-to place a competent and qualified individual in each of its public school classrooms.

There is nothing more important to the future of our state than our children, and their present well-being as well as their futures depends heavily upon the adults who teach and mentor them in school. Teaching is an honorable profession, unsurpassed in its intrinsic rewards. I invite you to join the ranks of West Virginia's dedicated and compassionate educators.

W.Va. Code §18A-3-1 (effective June 12, 2015) requires that alternative programs be approved by the West Virginia Board of Education. WVBE Policy 5901 is currently pending WVBE approval. Once this policy is approved by the WVBE and effective, alternative programs will be able to apply for approval to prepare teachers. Until such time, applicants are encouraged to seek employment directly with West Virginia public school districts by utilizing the WV K-12 Job Bank.
