Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  
PROGRAM S.M.A.R.T. GOALS 
1. Students will perform at mastery or above on all skills required in kindergarten at the end of the year and will demonstrate mastery of more advanced skills presented during the summer program.  
2. Students will retain skills from kindergarten and will achieve mastery of new skills presented during the summer program as demonstrated on the New Mark Learning Assessment and Scholastic Next Steps in Guided Reading Kit. 
3. Students will be provided enrichment learning opportunities. 
 
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES 
1. Students will achieve 80% or higher mastery of all skills as measured by the New Mark Learning Assessment and Scholastic Next Steps in Guided Reading Kit in the areas of phonics, comprehension and math.  
 
PROGRAM COMPONENTS 
1. Instruction will be based on the West Virginia Next Generation Standards. 
2. Thematic units will provide integrated learning for students. Each week there will be a different thematic unit that will incorporate listening, speaking, writing, and math skills. Some of the themes will include: bullying, camping, cowboys, flag week, health foods and transportation. 
3. Activities will be hands-on, varied to include reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, as well as, math skills. 
 
TESTING 
1. At the beginning of the program, the New Mark Learning Assessment and Scholastic Next Steps in Guided Reading will be administered as a pre-test. The test will be given again at the end of the program as a post-test to determine the progress students have made. 
2. Individual student portfolios will be utilized to monitor student progress and determine areas of need. 
 
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 
1. Federal programs staff will meet with the teacher prior to the beginning of the school sessions to orient the teacher with the requirements, expectations, assessment, and documentation needed for the program.  
 
PARENT INVOLVEMENT 
1. Parents of students coming to the summer program will participate in a Title I meeting prior to the graduation for Mother Goose Land Kindergarten. Also, parents of pre-K students will participate in a Pre-K Transition meeting. At both meetings, parents will be given reading and math activities and information to use at home to help prepare their child for their upcoming grade.

STUDENT SELECTION CRITERIA 
1. Students will be selected from those participating in the Mother Goose Land Kindergarten program. Selection will be made using EOY New Mark Learning Assessment and Scholastic Next Steps in Guided Reading. Students testing below mastery on the end of year benchmarks will be selected to participate in the summer program.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Lola Brown (All timecards must be submitted to immediate supervisor)
