Learning Plan Title: “What Can Be Done To Promote Peace?”

Objective:

HE. 8.7.1 Students will identify community resources that advocate against dating violence, harassment, bullying, intimidation and discrimination.

Performance Descriptor:

Mastery Level:  Students will identify community resources that advocate for the prevention of dating violence and harassment.

Learning Plan:  

 

  • Introduce the topic of violence prevention with a series of questions (i.e., Why is homicide the second leading cause of death among adolescents?
  • Why is violence increasing in society?).
  • Explain that we are going to answer some of these questions today.
  • Divide the class into four cooperative groups- Home, Community, School, and Individual.
  • Have each group list all factors, behaviors and beliefs that promote violence in the assigned area.
  • Cluster group answers on flip charts as each group reports out.
  • Now ask students to go back to their groups and list as many ways as possible that each -Home, Community, School, and Individuals can help prevent violence.
  • Cluster group answers on flip charts as each group reports out.
  • End class on a positive note by asking each person to promise to do their part to promote peace.
