Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform duties as assigned by the Executive Director in the Office of Assessment. 
2. Operate word processing, electronic spreadsheet and data management software and equipment as required by the position. 
3. Sort and screen incoming mail, collect source materials, and compose replies independently. 
4. Maintain various mailing lists and addresses. 
5. Process complex materials from rough draft to final form, taking responsibility for format. 
6. Draft forms, compose form letters, and compile factual reports, which require exercise of judgment and originality. 
7. Make travel arrangements and complete travel expenses. 
8. Under general direction, arrange meetings and conferences. 
9. Maintain financial paperwork with contracts, Purchase Orders, Teacher Substitute Grants, etc. 
10. Assist Executive Director in maintaining the budget for the Office of Assessment and ensuring all funds are properly allocated.  
11. Establish and maintain electronic reports, filing systems, and office records. 
12. Organize an appointment calendar; commit supervisor to appointments pending final approval. 
13. Assist in planning and scheduling conferences, including preparing agenda, securing facilities, and making travel arrangements. 
14. Attend to telephone calls and visitors; provide information or refer to proper staff member(s); independently assemble information in response to requests; answer inquiries for supervisor requiring knowledge of office programs. 
15. Relay information, instructions, and assignments between Executive Director and staff members, remind staff of deadlines. 
16. Operate standard office equipment as required. 
17. Proofread and route all paperwork for the Office of Assessment for approval and delivery. 
18. Perform other duties as related to job assignment by the Executive Director. 
Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is “at-will” and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation. 
The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding. 

1. High school diploma or equivalent. 
2. Knowledge of wvOasis (the WV state's accounting system) is preferred. 
3. Knowledge and understanding of what the Office of Assessment does. 
4. Five (5) years of experience. (Substitution: successful completion of study in an accredited college or university, or resident business or vocational school training may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis). 
5. Typing skills at 45 wpm. 
6. Strong oral communication skills. 
7. Dependability, dedication, and commitment. 
8. Strong word processing, electronic spreadsheet, and data management skills. 
9. Strong personal computer skills. 
10. Personal initiative (self-starter). 
11. Must demonstrate good work habits and attendance record.  

Based on Kanawha County Salary Scale commensurate with educational level and years of State or County experience.
