Wayne County School Awarded for Exemplary Reading Program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Wayne County school has been recognized for its outstanding reading program. Wayne Elementary School received the 2003 Exemplary Reading Program Award for West Virginia from the International Reading Association and the West Virginia Reading Association.  

The school was recognized during the 48th Annual Convention of the International Reading Association in Orlando, Fla. in May. Wayne Elementary was selected for having met the stringent criteria set by the Exemplary Reading Program Award Committee of the International Reading Association.  

The Association’s objectives are to improve literacy; recognize school staff that demonstrates excellence in reading and literacy program; encourage the development and refinement of exemplary reading/language arts instruction; and disseminate information about high quality programs so other professionals can improve their own instructional efforts.  

In all, 26 schools throughout the United States and Canada were selected for the award, which calls attention to outstanding reading programs in schools.
