The Academy, offered free to 70 applicants, is a three day professional development seminar targeted to the state’s fine arts teachers, general classroom teachers who are responsible for teaching the arts, and non-educator artists who work with arts teachers in West Virginia schools. This year there will be an orientation to the new content standards written for dance, music, theatre and visual art.
Quality professional development credit for the 2003-04 school year is offered through this academy’s intensive workshops with master teachers and guest artists. Room and board at WVU and classroom materials and supplies are free to all academy participants. Also offered – for the cost of tuition and registration – is an opportunity to earn graduate credit through WVU.
