Grants Available to Improve Quality of Child Care for Elementary School Children

Proposals are due Friday, June 1, 2001.  

The “School-Day Plus” grants are available to elementary schools, Head Start programs and private child care providers during FY 2002 (July 1, 2001, through June 30, 2002). Eligible programs must be located in schools, Head Start centers or other facilities that meet health and safety requirements and other grant guidelines.  

Grant funds may be used to offset the daily costs of start-up and expansion of School-Day Plus programs in areas where at least 30 percent of the children are eligible for free and reduced lunch. Grant funds may not be used to pay for large equipment or major construction costs, but computers may be purchased in some circumstances. No grant award will exceed $10,000 per site.
