Board Moves Forward

June 24, 2014

Charleston, W.V.--Today, the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE) engaged in interviews with three state superintendent candidates. No decisions were made at the close of the session today. When a decision is made, the WVBE is committed to sharing the information with the public.

In conjunction with the ongoing process, and in an effort to honor State Superintendent Dr. James Phares’ planned retirement on June 30, 2014, the WVBE voted today to employ WVDE Deputy Superintendent, Charles Heinlein, as State Superintendent beginning July 1, 2014 until the process is completed and a permanent State Superintendent is hired.

The WVBE wishes to thank Dr. Phares for the excellent service he has provided to the students and educators throughout West Virginia.
