Educare Grant Monies Now Available

The West Virginia State Legislature has made $1 million available to the Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families in the 2001 budget for the Educare initiative.  

These funds will be distributed through a competitive grant process to collaborative community groups that must include at least the following "core partners" representing:  

* Head Start, * child care, * public preschool, * birth to three, and * parent of a preschool child.  

Any early care and education program that meets Educare standards can receive funds, including public preschools, Head Start Programs, WV Birth to Three programs, private preschools, child care centers, and family day care facilities.  

Educare is intended to enhance existing programs and to encourage them to improve the quality of their services. Programs are to be available to as many children as possible as well as accessible and affordable for parents.  

Letters of intent are due August 25, 2000, concept papers are due Septermber 8, 2000, and full proposals are due November 15, 2000.
