April 04, 2000

The 58th Annual School Transportation Conference will be held July 23-26 in Morgantown, according to Wayne Clutter, executive director of school transportation and facilities for the West Virginia Department of Education.

According to Clutter, the conference is designed to provide information and training to school transportation administrators and maintenance personnel throughout the state.

“This conference emphasizes school bus safety and provides maintenance employees with the latest information on servicing and repairing school buses,” he said. “Administrators will receive information pertaining to special needs transportation and other issues facing school systems today.”

Clutter said that West Virginia school buses travel more than 41 million miles each year, transporting over 230,000 students each day. “According to the National Safety Council, school bus transportation is the safest form of transportation in the world,” he explained. “This conference helps us to ensure that West Virginia’s students are transported safely each day.”

The transportation director said that more than 50 vendors from across America will be displaying the latest equipment and vehicle components. At least 400 people are expected to attend the conference this year.
