Scholarship Program Offered to GED, EDP Graduates

In cooperation with the West Virginia Literacy Foundation, the Governorís Council on Literacy has established a scholarship program to help non-traditional high school graduates further their education.  

March 1 is the deadline for submitting the required documentation for this scholarship program. Persons needing additional information should call 1-800-642- 2670.  

The $1,000 annual scholarships will be awarded to selected General Educational Development (GED) and External Diploma Program (EDP) graduates through the West Virginia Higher Grant Program. Financial need and GED scores or EDP advanced academic emphasis are factors considered in the scholarship program.  

Colleges, universities and foundations participating in the 2000-2001 program include (number of scholarships by each school in parentheses): Bluefield State College(1), Cabell County Career Technology Center (1), Marshall University Foundation (2), Mercer County Technical Education Center (1), Roane-Jackson Technical Center (1), Salem-Teikyo University (3), Southern West Virginia Community College (1), West Virginia Northern Community College (1), West Virginia University Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (2), and Wheeling Jesuit University (1).
