New Site Planned for WV School Closings/Delays Information

January 22, 2000

West Virginians will soon be able to learn about school closings and delays with the click of a mouse.

The West Virginia Department of Education will unveil its School Closings/Delays Website on February 1. The website will be a place where teachers, parents and the news media can learn about school closings, delays and other announcements relayed by participating county boards of education.

Participating counties have been provided access to the website and will be able to input messages as soon as decisions are made about school closings or delays. The information will be downloaded instantly to the WVDE website.

Although the site is not designed to supplant traditional means of communicating school closings and delays information, it will provide an on-demand, immediate service to anyone connected to the Internet. Participating county school systems are in the process of testing the infrastructure and options.
