The Corporation for National and Community Service awarded a grant that will help fund the Learn and Serve Program. The program, which promotes service learning through community services, received more than $136,600. This is part of a grant that continues through August 31, 2006. It will serve approximately 5,000 students in grades kindergarten through 12 and 800 adults.

The WVDE also was awarded a second grant for its 21Century Community Learning Center program for the 2005 fiscal year. Twenty-first CCLCs help establish local community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities for students and their families.
The grant, which is more than $7 million, also is a continuing grant and will serve approximately 12,000 K-12 students and 8,000 family members. This funding will serve thirty-two 21st Century Community Learning Center programs across the State of West Virginia.
Twenty-First Century Community Learning Center programs are awarded to public schools, government agencies, faith-based programs, community-based programs and for-profit agencies.
