Educator Certification

Information concerning certification requirements is located in WVBoE Policy 5202:

Beginning December 1, 2014, we will no longer accept checks or Money Orders as forms of payment. All payments must be completed online at https://wveis.k12.wv.us/certpayment/.

Please Note: Teachers and other educators who plan to complete WVLearns eLearning courses to meet teacher certification renewal and/or advanced salary options may do so during the following sessions:


Winter 2016: January 6-February 23, 2016
Spring 2016: March 2-April 19, 2016


The Summer 2016 course session has been cancelled due to possible movement of course content to a new course platform. WVLearns eLearning courses will resume during the Fall 2016 session, October 4-November 22, 2016. Additional information may be accessed from https://wvde.state.wv.us/elearning/schedule.php. Due to the large volume of applications received by the Office of Educator Effectiveness and Licensure, the estimated time for processing of applications is 90 days.**

A valid email address is required with each application. All communication is conducted electronically.

New --To pay for certification online using a valid credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa) please visit the online payment page. Payment posting/received does not grant "received" or "pending" status to any application. Application must be received by our office to qualify as "received" or "pending."

Pending applications are in the process of being coordinator reviewed. Please note processing cannot begin until all required documentation and fully-completed application are received.


Please note: tuition/fee reimbursement applications will be denied if incomplete and applicants must reapply.

  • Please contact the county, college/university, institutional program, community program, RESA or other to inquire as to the documents that have been mailed to our office.
  • Please include an email address on your application, as email is required for all communication.
  • Certificates are no longer printed and mailed. Official certificates are available online as a PDF by visiting the Certification Status Information page.

 

**Fee reimbursement applications are processed on the fiscal year system and will be processed by the end of    that same fiscal year (June 30).

 

Alternative Certification
WVBE Policy 5901 creates an alternative means for a qualified person to earn a professional teaching certificate. Once an alternative certification program receives WVBE approval, school districts may begin preparing eligible candidates. Interested applicants, please visit the WV K-12 Education Job Bank and contact your county of interest directly. School districts interested in program guidance or information please contact Robert Mellace at rmellace@k12.wv.us or Linda Bragg lnbragg@k12.wv.us in the Office of Educator Effectiveness and Licensure.

Alternative Certification Program Review Board (ACEPPRB) meeting dates:

  • June 14, 2016
  • September 22, 2016

Program proposals for the June 14 review must be submitted online no later than May 14, 2016. Program proposals for the September 22 review must be submitted online via WVEIS-WOW no later than August 22, 2016. For information about the online portal please contact Linda Bragg lnbragg@k12.wv.us.

The deadline to submit a letter of intent to propose a program for the June 14, 2016, review is April 14, 2016, and for the September 22, 2016, review is July 22, 2016. All program documents for review must be submitted online by the designated deadline. Letters of intent may be submitted via email to lnbragg@k12.wv.us. Letters may also be mailed to the Office of Educator Effectiveness and Licensure. For information about the online portal please contact Linda Bragg lnbragg@k12.wv.us.
