Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with the County Superintendent and transportation personnel in the state inspection of school buses. 
2. Assist with the required school bus operator training. 
3. Perform and complete on-site inspections of school buses in each assigned county using criteria approved by the State Board of Education, and submit accurate records of the same. 
4. Assist the State Executive Director of School Transportation in compiling information relative to the performance and durability of bus components and accident investigations. 
5. Daily travel within assigned counties will be necessary. 
6. Strong oral and written communication skills needed. 
7. Must demonstrate exceptional work habits and attendance record.  
8. Assist with on-site inspections of school facilities. 
9. Able to work beyond official work hours, as necessary. 
10. Administer school bus operator certification examinations. 
11. Other duties as assigned. 
Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is “at-will” and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation. 
The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding. 

1. Experience required in one or more of the following areas: school bus transportation; school bus or heavy truck operation and/or maintenance; or training of vehicle operators or other personnel. 
2. Experience as a mechanic servicing school buses is required. 
3. Graduation from high school or equivalent is required.  
4. National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification for school buses is desired.
