Duties and Responsibilities
1. Primarily implements adopted CTE concentration components to include review of Personalized Education Plan for student. 
2. Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning. 
3. Utilizes instructional management systems which increases student learning and maximizes time on task. 
4. Monitors student progress toward accomplishing instructional goals and objectives. 
5. Promotes and maintains positive student-teacher and interagency lines of communication. 
6. Maintains professional work habits. 
7. Complies with host agency’s policies and procedures. 
8. Participates in cognitive restructuring activities for students. Plans and provides prescriptive learning experiences identified for participating students, including developing and implementing alternative plan for credit recovery or instruction to be implement in isolation if necessary. 
9. Works in a cooperative manner with host agency staff to insure a safe and secure environment and integration of treatment and educational goals. 
10. Maintains and upgrades professional skills. 
11. Provides the rehabilitation team with assessment results to aid in the development of IEP or PEP. 
12. Serves as a member of the treatment team as an educational advisor. 
13. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or lead teacher. 
Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is “at-will” and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation. 
The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding. 

1. Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate endorsed in Science, Mathematics, English and/or Social Studies (grades 9-12) as defined by State Board Policy 5202 or qualifies for West Virginia Professional Teaching Licensure under Career and Technical Education as required by State Board Policy 5202 or qualifies for a WV Professional Teaching Certificate in Multi-categorical Special Education or equivalent (grades 9-12) as defined by State Board Policy 5202. 
2. Demonstrates a high level of ability in the areas of assessment and instruction. 
3. Knowledge of Option Pathway and virtual course delivery. 
4. Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully: (a) perform the job requirements; (b) work within the special setting of an institution for incarcerated youth or adults; and (c) work as part of a treatment team in concert with others. 
5. Experience in virtual school delivery with understanding and demonstration of evidence based instructional practices.

1. Experience in working in a correctional facility. 
2. Experience in working in an institutional setting.
