Troops to Teachers In order to become a professional educator in the mountain state, you must first select a teacher preparation program that leads to a West Virginia certification. Alternative certification routes for individuals that already possess a bachelor’s degree may accelerate the certification process. The Transition to Teaching program is one of these programs. It allows 30 candidates to become certified while teaching full-time, each new school year. Once you have completed a teacher preparation program and passed all required Praxis Exams you will need to apply for a teaching certification. Teacher Certification in West Virginia Career and technical educators are the exception to the process listed above as they normally find employment before joining a state approved teacher preparation program.
