Troops to Teachers Become a Teacher in West Virginia Online! The following Institutions of Higher Education provide teacher preparation programs that are completely online with the exception of a required student teaching experience. Some of these institutions programs have been identified as meeting the requirements for certification in West Virginia or the requirements in their own state. Through reciprocity, many out of state certifications may be transferred to obtain a West Virginia certification. Provided students undergo a thorough transcript analysis, complete all required credit hours for West Virginia certification through their completed teacher certification program, become certified within the institution's home state, and meet the West Virginia Praxis exam testing requirements, graduates may be able to apply for a West Virginia certification in the area of which they would like to teach. These are not the only completely online programs that may lead to a West Virginia certification, but they are a few out of many that the WVDE has been able to identify.

* All certification time estimates are based upon best-case scenarios provided by the individual institution of higher education. The best-case scenarios include the assumption that the candidate already possesses a bachelor's degree and meets all required prerequisite course requirements prior to enrolling into the program. The information on this page does not supersede the full set of West Virginia Department of Education requirements for teacher certification. All universities should conduct a proper transcript evaluation and determine the amount of time it will take individuals to become certified on a case by case basis. All of the information on the distance learning opportunities page for each institution of higher education is provided by the school itself and is not a claim being made by either the Troops to Teachers program or the West Virginia Department of Education. * The West Virginia Department of Education does not promote the use of any one teacher preparation program over another. If your institution can prove that they should be included on this list because they have a completely online teaching program that leads to a West Virginia teacher certification, please contact Robert Mellace at 1.800.982.2378 to add your teacher preparation program to this listing. |
