Improvement Grant Awardees and Unfunded Applications
The
West Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce School Improvement
Grant (SIG) awards following a rigorous review process. Twenty districts housed
schools that met the criteria for persistently
lowest performing schools. Seventeen districts elected to
apply for grants that represented twenty seven schools. Grants were judged
on the quality of the application, the need for the funding (priority was
given to districts with Tier I and Tier II schools) and the capacity of the
district to make substantive changes to improve the achievement of students.
Districts
were asked to give an oral presentation to the grant review committee before
the final awardees were chosen. Feedback from the presentations and the grant
reviewers was used by the districts to hone their final grant applications.
After a second review, eight districts representing fifteen schools were approved
for funding.
