WVDE Strategic Work Plan - Tasks

  1. Provide students and staff with equitable access to technology infrastructure that supports acquisition of 21st Century skills.
  2. Provide students an equitable access to curriculum/instruction offerings through the use of technology.
  3. Provide online professional development offerings to enhance number of highly qualified teachers and National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT).
  4. Maintain a current and comprehensive statewide management and information system.
  5. Research the extent of integration of technology in the teacher preparation programs within WV higher education teacher prep courses.
  6. Explore technology integration competency requirement for all new teachers that is incorporated into a teacher preparation program.
  7. Provide all educators with an online professional development program that provides and orientation to the five content and skill areas that represent the essential knowledge for 21st Century instruction.
  8. Design a technology literacy skills self-assessment available for all educators to support 21st Century instruction.
  9. Provide schools with access to Technology Integration Specialists.
  10. Determine the design and feasibility of an 8th grade assessment of technology skills.
  11. Provide software that supports basic skills acquisition and aligns with the WV CSOs.
  12. Participate in the development of a comprehensive RFP to meet E-Rate requirements for acquiring telecommunication services.
  13. Determine the differences between educational discounts and governmental purchasing to determine the best approach for purchasing technology.
  14. Ensure counties and schools are using technology to increase parental and community involvement.
  15. Evaluate compliance with USDE regulations within the Title IID grant (Technology Integration Specialists) and compliance with FCC requirements for E-rate discounts.
  16. Continue to plan with county technology coordinators for the successful implementation of statewide and federal technology initiatives (e.g., SUCCESS, Technology Infrastructure, E-rate, EETT, filtering) that support the acquisition of 21st Century skills and improve student achievement.
  17. Continue to support the implementation of standards-based software and curriculum modules/less plans that align with the WV CS)s and support improved student learning (e.g., SAS InSchool, MarcoPolo, SchoolKit, Reinventing Education, Resource Matrix, Technology CSOs, etc.)
