Technology Integration Specialists

The goal is to provide educators with the 21st century skills and tools necessary to assume the role of a Technology Integration Specialist (TIS). A TIS is a curriculum coach that has added expertise in using technology tools to increase student engagement with learning.

Participants in this initiative will receive intense professional development.  Completers of the program may apply for the TIS advanced credential awarded by the Office of Professional Preparation. The professional development includes the following:

  • A three-day conference at Tamarack in Beckley, June 14, 15 & 16;
  • A five-day Statewide Technology Conference in Morgantown July 16 - 20;
  • Participation in Online courses;
  • Optional face-to-face workshops (one in the fall and one in the spring, typically at the local RESA office); and
  • Other professional development opportunities related to topics such as project-based learning, specific technology tools, Online content resources, data analysis for instructional decision-making, and instructional technology integration issues.

The application window for the 2017-18 TIS training cohorts will be open by March 31, 2017! If you are interested in being a part of this exciting group please notify your principal and county technology coordinator soon. Tech coordinators will be sent the assurance/registration information in March to be disseminated to school principals.

Several offices within the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) are releasing assurance/applications for Technology Integration Specialist (TIS) professional development. The TIS initiative provides research-based technology integration strategies, tools and resources enabling educators to obtain a TIS Advanced Credential. The identified groups and offices include the following (click on the URLs to link to assurance/applications):

  • County-funded, school-based TIS through the Office of Technology Integration and Support
