Tools for Schools K-12 Initiative

The 21st Century Tools for 21st Century Schools – K-12 Initiative  supports the WVDE Global 21 program by providing high quality technology tools, application software, engaging classroom curriculum / technology resources, relevant and job-embedded professional development, and infrastructure to support the initiative.

Emphasis is placed on allowing counties and schools flexibility within an established framework in terms of technology implementation choices and equity of access for students and teachers.  Current practice is to provide each county with a per pupil allocation based on county net enrollment.

The WVDE holds the current TFS contract with PomeroyFor information relating to product research and development, classroom assessment and correlations to the WV Content Standards and Objectives click here.

Tools for Schools County Contact FY13 Update Meeting

June 21 & 22, 2012 at the Bridgeport Conference Center

We are pleased to invite you to the County Contact FY13 Update Meeting, scheduled for June 21 & 22 at the Bridgeport Conference Center.

Although typically conducted during the August conference,  this earlier session will provide many benefits – and you should be able to kick off planning activities earlier, with the goal of earlier implementation during the school year.

This meeting will provide a venue for you to meet with the WVDE  Office of Technology staff, your assigned TFS representative,  Pomeroy and TFS contract vendors, and representatives of other statewide initiatives   – and will provide an opportunity to get answers for questions, such as the following:

  •          When will we receive the Tools for Schools allocations?
  •          When can I schedule a planning meeting with TFS and Pomeroy representatives?
  •          Can we schedule summer infrastructure walk-throughs?
  •          What is the process for planning for Textbook-to-Technology purchases?
  •          How will we handle E-rate requests and funding approvals?
  •          What is the schedule for the Tools for Schools regional planning meetings?
  •          What new products and services will be available on the Tools for Schools contract?
  •          What updates have been made in eMTS?
  •          What professional development offerings are available?
  •          How will TechSteps be used as a tool for helping meet Policy 2460 & CIPA requirements?
  •          What is the Intel Roadmap for future products?
  •          What is being planned for Windows 8?
  •          What are the current technology recommendations for the SMARTER Balanced Assessment?

The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21,  with the goal of finishing no later than 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Lunch will be provided on both days; other travel arrangements (lodging, mileage, other meals, etc.) will be the responsibility of the county. A block of rooms has been held, at the Wingate, for meeting participants. The booking information is as follows:
