Use of E-mail Accounts

E-mail accounts on access.k12.wv.us are limited in total account storage on the server and in file size of attachments. When an account reaches approximately 90% capacity, the system will send a "warning" message. At 100% capacity, any additional incoming mail is returned to the sender.

Currently, staff and teacher mailboxes are limited to 100 megabytes of storage and 5 megabyte file attachments per message.  Student mailboxes are limited to 50 megabytes of storage with the same file attachment limit of 5 megabytes. There is no limit on the number of messages. The only limit is based on the storage requirements of the messages that are retained on the mail server for each individual account.

It is permissible to use an e-mail client configured for either the POP3 or IMAP protocol, or to use the webmail site at http://access.k12.wv.us:1081

Check your mail frequently to avoid reaching the storage limit of your account.

Set a "vacation message" to automatically send a response to incoming messages in order to notify the senders that you are not reading your mail temporarily.

If you cannot check your mail for an extended period of time, consider signing off of listserv lists or setting them to "nomail" to prevent your mailbox from reaching capacity.

See the following information on listservs:
