1997 Computerworld Smithsonian Award

The West Virginia Department of Education received a Computerworld Smithsonian Award in Washington, DC, on June 10, 1997, in recognition of the WVDE Bell Atlantic - West Virginia WORLD SCHOOL project. The project is documented in the Permanent Research Collection of the Smithonian Institution's National Museum of American History.

"The WORLD SCHOOL partnership creates uniform, equitable, statewide Internet access for educators and all K-12 students to increase student achievement. Having an equal opportunity to learn, experience other cultures and expand skills, a statewide student population is becoming the knowledge workforce for West Virginia's future." (quoted from Smithsonian web site; 1997)
