West Virginia k12techs Listserv

Purpose of k12techs

k12techs listserv was created to provide online technical support to at least one educator per school. This person should read the postings and pass information on to others at their school who would benefit from that particular posting. If someone at the school has a question to ask of the West Virginia K-12 Internet community, then this is a good list for sharing those questions and getting "expert" answers in return.

Posting to k12techs

From time to time, West Virginia Network (WVNET) or the West Virginia Department of Education, Office of Instructional Technology (WVDE/OIT) will post information to this list that may be interesting or important to school, county, and/or RESA personnel. We post things like hardware maintenance, software upgrades, scheduled outages, explanations of unscheduled outages, etc. This information should then be shared at each location with the appropriate staff.

k12techs is also a good place for educators to ask questions of and share ideas with other people around the state.

Anyone can post to the list by sending an e-mail message to k12techs@listserv.wvnet.edu or to k12techs@access.k12.wv.us. Remember that a message to this address is sent to EVERYONE on the list (several hundred people). Also, if you Reply to a message on the list then it goes to EVERYONE on the list. So if you want to reply just to the individual who sent the message then be sure to edit the To: address part of your e-mail before you send it (can be embarassing otherwise).

Current List of Members

To get a current list of all the members on k12techs, send an e-mail message to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with the following line in the body of the e-mail:

review k12techs
Leave the subject blank and remove any signature information from the body of the message.

You will get e-mail back from listserv with a full current list of members.

Be sure to NOT send this message to the list (k12techs@listserv.wvnet.edu).

Remove Yourself from k12techs

If you will not be able to read your e-mail for an extended period of time, then unsubscribe from k12techs. This would probably be a good idea over Christmas break, spring break, and summer. You can subscribe again when you return.

If you want to remove yourself from k12techs, you can do so by sending e-mail to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with the following line in the body of the note:

signoff k12techs
Remember to leave the subject blank and to remove signature information from the body of the message.

Be sure to NOT send this message to the list (k12techs@listserv.wvnet.edu).

Set Listserv to "nomail"

Instead of removing yourself from the listserv, you can temporarily stop the delivery of listserv e-mail to your mailbox. To set k12techs to "nomail" just send a messsage to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with the following in the body of the message:
set k12techs nomail
To turn the mail back on, send a message to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with the following in the body of the message:
set k12techs mail
Leave the subject blank and remove signature information from the body of the message.

Be sure to NOT send this message to the list (k12techs@listserv.wvnet.edu).

Archives of k12techs

k12techs is archived. All posts for each month go into a separate file. To retrieve a month's archive, send e-mail to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with the following message:
get k12techs logYYMM
where YY is the last two digits of the year and MM is the numeric month. The log file will contain every post to the list, separated by a line of equal signs. If you would like to see what archives are available send e-mail to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with the message:
index k12techs
Be sure to NOT send this message to the list (k12techs@listserv.wvnet.edu).

Listserv Help

To get more information about listserv lists, send e-mail to listserv@listserv.wvnet.edu with "help" as the body of the note (no quotes). Be sure to NOT send this message to the list (k12techs@listserv.wvnet.edu).
