All students in West Virginia are required to take and pass Algebra.  Success in Algebra has a significant impact on a student"s future options in the world of work and his/her financial success.  A student’s readiness is critical to the mastery of the subject.   Determining when students are ready for Algebra should not be left solely to their grade level assignment.  Students in West Virginia take Algebra at the 8th or 9th grade.  Placement decisions should be carefully considered through a number of indicators.

Below is a link to the Algebra Readiness Indicators Checklist to help those with the responsibility of determining whether a student will take Algebra at the 8th grade or 9th grade in West Virginia schools.
