School Health Profiles 2014 West Virginia Rankings

This fact sheet provides an overview of West Virginia’s national ranking among 48 states on several indicators from the 2014 School Health Profiles. Listed are health-related school policies and practices where West Virginia ranks either the highest or lowest in the nation. Topic areas include school health education requirements and content, physical education and physical activity, school health policies related to tobacco-use prevention, school health policies related to nutrition, and school health coordination.

This set of fact sheets provides summary high school results from the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey and the 2014 School Health Profiles conducted in West Virginia. The fact sheets describe high school student behavior and high school policies and practices related to nine topic areas: injury risk and violence, bullying and suicidal behavior, tobacco use, alcohol and drug use, sexual behavior, weight management, chronic disease and health care access, dietary behavior, and physical activity.

Catalyst Schools Research Study Report: Catalyst Schools’ Implementation of the Learning School Approach

This report focuses on levels of implementation of the Learning School approach achieved by catalyst schools across the state. Catalyst schools were 28 elementary and secondary schools selected to participate in a pilot project begun in July 2014, which explored how best to support teacher professional learning through decentralization of decision making and implementation of the Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning. This is the fourth in a series of reports based on a research study, “Developing Effective Professional Learning Communities in Catalyst Schools,” conducted between February 2015 and June 2016.

Catalyst Schools Research Study Report: Supporting Statewide Implementation of the Learning School Initiative

This is the first in a series of reports based on a research study, Developing Effective Professional Learning Communities in Catalyst Schools, conducted between February 2015 and June 2016.In this brief report we address the following research question: What are feasible approaches for statewide implementation of a decentralized, school-driven approach to professional learning? We look in particular at efforts to redirect decision making about professional development funding to the school level, to schedule time for professional learning, and to increase the capacity of schools to make the best possible use of resources to improve educator and student learning.

Catalyst Schools Research Study Report: Spotlight on RESA 2 - Regional Implementation of the Learning School Initiative

West Virginia's Regional Education Service Agency 2 (RESA 2) serves six school districts in the southwestern part of the state, which together have 95 schools. This brief report examines RESA 2's approach to supporting implementation of the Learning School approach in seven schools, called catalyst schools, and to preparing districts in the region to implement the Learning school approach in all their schools. This is the second in a series of brief reports on the Catalyst Schools Research Study.
