Read WV Logo

Read WV is our effort to promote reading. This long-term project is a joint effort of the West Virginia Department of Education, Read Aloud West Virginia, the West Virginia Library Commission, and the Imagination Library.

Read WV is designed to encourage children and the adults in their lives to make reading a priority early in life and to ensure that children read every day. A child who can read is a child who can learn. And a child who can learn is a child who can succeed in school and in life.

Reading well is one of the most important skills a child needs to learn. When children master reading in elementary school, they learn a skill that will determine how successful they will be all through school and as adults.

Research tells us that students who cannot read well and read proficiently are at risk of becoming disengaged and disaffected. They often fall behind in their studies.

This website includes information and links you can use to help your children not only learn to read better but to develop a love of reading that will serve them well.
