COllege summit alumni trained as advocates for capitol hill day

In November, College Summit convened 20 of its most successful alumni to engage in policy advocacy around postsecondary success. Alumni met with 18 Members of Congress and their staffs on Capitol Hill to establish relationships and educate them about College Summit’s overarching work and its efforts in education policy.

The previous day, these same alumni attended an event supported by the Citi Foundation, where they were trained to become Citi Alumni Advocates (CAAs). Training was provided by the president of Public Squared, Richard Tafel, a leading expert in public policy training for nonprofits.

a new approach to college-going culture in miami

Miami is one of the youngest and most vibrant cities in the U.S. and the diversity of its cultural influence extends well past city limits. It comes as no surprise that College Summit’s Miami-Dade partner schools are pioneering fresh and exciting ways to develop college-going culture that will serve as a model for other regions.

Thanks to a dynamic partnership that involves funding from Children’s Trust, Deloitte’s Future Fund and community volunteers from City Year and Deloitte, College Summit “Culture Clubs” are now established at 10 partner schools in Miami, providing a unique afterschool opportunity for Peer Leaders to hone their leadership skills while also providing additional college and financial aid application support to interested students.
