Specific Learning Disabilities
SLP is a multi-level process that
emphasizes high quality curriculum and instruction for all students. It includes
close monitoring of progress in learning and provides support to intervene
early and prevent students from falling behind in content learning.
As a result of the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004), the
process based on a student's response to high quality, research-based instruction
is used in West Virginia in determining whether a student has a specific learning
disability (SLD).
