The purpose of this guidance document is to provide a resource for SLPs working in the public
schools that incorporate both state and federal regulations and best practice in the field of
speech-language pathology. As school reform issues emerge and policies change, the role of
the SLP continues to evolve. The information in this document will assist SLPs, special education
directors and school administrators as they facilitate services in their schools to meet the needs of
students and prepare students as 21st century learners.
