GIFTED EDUCATION GUIDELINES
Link to Teach IEP - Assessment The results of WESTEST 2 are entered in the appropriate boxes for the appropriate year as a scale score (SS), a performance level (PL), for reading - the Lexile score and for math - the Quantile score. This information is on the student's WESTEST 2 report. There is a column for other results such as the WV Writing Assessment or the ACT assessment. If more room is needed, the results may be reported in the Present Levels narrative. Note that the WESTEST 2 is given at grade level. It does not give information regarding mastery of above-grade level content knowledge and skills. INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PROGRAM

PART V: ASSESSMENT DATAStudent Summative Assessment Data (WESTEST)
(SS = scale score) (PL) = performance level) (LX = Lexile) (OT = Quantile) The most current formative assessments may be Acuity benchmarks or custom-made tests, learning-styles inventories, rubrics, rating scales, and other performance-based assessments. This is not an all inclusive list. For gifted students, above-grade level assessment is needed in order to justify acceleration if acceleration is the focus of the services. Although rubrics are available that measure separate components of higher order thinking, some gifted education teachers in West Virginia saw the need for a holistic rubric to assess gifted students' work and behavior that may be used as benchmark or formative data to describe present levels of academic achievement and functional performance in developing annual goals for an IEP in WV. The result of much study and writing is our Learning Skills/Behavior Rubric. It can be used as a pre-post assessment of skill acquisition that can be attributed to gifted education services. It can also be given as a self-assessment by the student. Learning Skills/Behavior Rubric - Word Learning Skills/Behavior Rubric - PDF Formative Assessment Data
