COMPASS® scores are on a scale of 1 - 99. Students meeting the COMPASS® cut scores as defined by the West Virginia Higher Education Commission and the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, Series 21, Freshman Assessment and Placement Standards, will be placed into college credit-bearing mathematics and English courses in public West Virginia colleges and universities.
According to Series 21, students may not enroll at any two-year or four-year public institution in West Virginia in a mathematics or English course which is designed to be applied towards an associate or baccalaureate degree unless the minimum score is earned on the ACT®, SAT®, ASSEST®, ACCUPLACER® or COMPASS®.
- To enroll in a college credit-bearing mathematics course, a scaled score of 59 on the COMPASS® Pre-Algebra test and a scaled score of 36 on the COMPASS® Algebra test is required.
- To enroll in a college credit-bearing English course, a scaled score of 71 on the COMPASS® English (Writing Skills) test is required.
