West Virginia Department of education has worked closely with CTB/McGraw-Hill and a large group of West Virginia Educators to develop reports that are easily understood by students, parents, and educators. Below are links to sample version of each type of report.
The Confidential Summary Report for West Virginia aggregates state student performance on APTA. The state reports are generated by content area, grade level, and performance level.
Each grade level grid provides a grade level report which indicates the number of students tested by content areas/sub-groups. The Performance Levels specify the aggregate number/percent of students who achieved each performance level. Additionally, the report provides the number/percent of students who achieved At or Above Mastery and Below Mastery by sub-groups. The Performance Levels are Distinguished, Above Mastery, Mastery, Partial Mastery, and Novice.
The lower section of this report shows the mean percent correct by content standard, the number of students tested, the number and percent of students At or Above Mastery and Below Mastery by content area to include the mean percent correct.
Teachers and administrators may use this report to determine state performance by gender, race/ethnicity, students with disabilities, Limited English Proficient (LEP) students, migrant students, and economically disadvantaged students.
The front of the student/parent report provides a summary of student performance on WESTEST. The report is generated by content area and grade level.
Performance Levels are levels of student mastery in each of the content areas. The levels are Distinguished, Above Mastery, Mastery, Partial Mastery, Novice. The performance level indicates your student can consistently perform what is described for that level and the levels below.
Additionally, the front of the report provides the student scale score and definitions of scale score, performance level descriptors, and scale score range for each performance level at that grade level.
The reverse side of the student/parent report provides descriptions of the types of knowledge and skills associated with that level of performance within that content area and grade level. Teachers and administrators can use the report to address student needs to improve student learning.
