School Nutrition Programs:
Team Nutrition Education Programs

Nutrition education programs link education and child nutrition programs. With a variety of partners, these programs promote comprehensive, behavior-based messages designed to enable children and their role models to make healthy eating and physical activity choices. These efforts provide the foundation that help children learn how eating and physical activity affect the way they grow, learn, play and feel.

West Virginia Child Nutrition education programs provide a trained cadre of educators who conduct professional development and in-service workshops in nutrition education and food service management for teachers, administrators, parents and food service personnel. Program activities are designed to improve children.s lifelong eating and physical activity habits by applying the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Food Guide Pyramid.

Team Nutrition, a United States Department of Agriculture supported initiative, recognizes the importance of involving many partners in nutrition education. The program empowers decision makers and gatekeepers to create a healthy environment by planning and preparing healthy meals, linking meal programs to education activities, and providing nutrition expertise and awareness to the community.
