Where can I obtain more information about the SFSP?

What agencies may participate in the SFSP?

A participating agency is referred to as a "Sponsor". Listed below are the types of sponsors that may participate.
  • Public and private, non-profit boards of education;
  • Private non-profit organizations;
  • Residential summer camps;
  • Federal, state, local, municipal or county government agencies; and
  • Community and faith-based organizations

How do I apply for the SFSP?

a. Agency personnel must attend training offered by the West Virginia Department of Education, Office of Child Nutrition.
b. Must submit an on-line application after they have received training.

What are the responsibilities of an agency that may want to participate in the SFSP?

a. Attend WVDE, OCN training
b. Locate eligible sites
c. Hire, train, and supervise staff
d. Make arrangement for meal to be prepared or delivered
e. Monitor sites
f. Prepare and submit claims for reimbursement


Who is eligible to get free meals at a site?

All children 18 years of age or younger who come to an open receive free meals.

How are SFSP Meals Prepared?

A sponsor may prepare its own meals, purchase meals from a school or contract for meals from a vendor.

How much money will I receive for each meal?

USDA assigns different rate for each meal (breakfast, lunch, supper, snack) each year. You can go to the USDA website for the current rates.

How many meals do participants receive each day?

At most sites, children receive either one or two reimbursable meals each day. Camps may be approved to serve up to three meals to each child, each day.
