WVDE Awarded Benedum Foundation Grant

Charleston, W.Va. - The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation awarded the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) a grant in the amount of $200,000 to start a statewide professional development program in mathematics for educators teaching grades three through five.  

The Benedum grant will be used to assist in the implementation of a five-year WVDE plan to improve student performance in mathematics. The focus of the Benedum Foundation grant funding will be to train three to five teachers in standards-based mathematics instruction and to train county mathematics leadership teams with the goal of improving student performance in elementary mathematics.  

Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation is an independent foundation established in 1944 by Michael and Sarah Benedum, natives respectively of Bridgeport and Blacksville, W.Va.
