Posted: March 31, 2005
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The 2005 West Virginia Arts Teachers’ Academy is planned for June 15th through June 18th at Capital High School in Charleston.

The academy, offered free to 70 applicants, is a professional development seminar targeted to the state’s arts teachers, general classroom teachers who are responsible for teaching the arts, arts student-teachers, and non-educator artists who work with arts teachers in WV schools. This year the theme is “The Arts, the Parents, and the Community: Powerful Partnerships!” Numerous recent studies have shown that when school programs engage the parents and community, the students perform better in school. Arts teachers who attend the academy will explore ways to strengthen their programs’ connections to their students’ parents and to the community.

Professional development credit for the 2005 – 2006 school year is offered through this academy’s intensive workshops with master teachers and guest artists. Room and board at University of Charleston and classroom materials and supplies are free to all academy participants.
