WVACHE To Hold Free Grant Application Workshop

Charleston, W.Va. - West Virginia high school personnel are invited to attend a free workshop on Friday, April 15, 2005 at the Days Inn Flatwoods to learn how to apply for an Access Project grant from the West Virginia Access Center for Higher Education (WVACHE).  

The workshop will be offered three times throughout the day so participants may select the time convenient for them: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  

Schools can compete for grants to assist them in implementing a proven model designed to encourage more student to pursue higher education. Grants recipients may receive up to $10,000 each year for two years.  

Using this model program, the 13 high schools that currently have WVACHE Access Projects have already increased their college-going rates by 45 percent over pre-intervention levels.  

The deadline for the 2005-2007 WVACHE Access Project grants competition applications will at the end of May. Grant recipients will be selected and notified this summer. Recipients will be expected to participate in the 12th Annual OACHE/WVACHE conference at Rio Grand Community College in Rio Grande, Ohio in October.
