West Virginia Secondary School For The Deaf Boys’ Varsity Basketball 2005 E.S.D.A.A. Division III Champions

Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia School for the Deaf (WVSD) take home top honors from the Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association (ESDAA) Boys’ Basketball Championship Tournament.
The WVSD Lions traveled to Brattleboro, Vermont to compete in the 11th Annual Boys’ Division III Basketball Tournament. In a fourth quarter scramble, the Lions trampled the Austine School for the Deaf from Vermont to win the game 49 – 34. This is the second consecutive championship win for the Lions.
WVSD players, Billy White (Charleston) and Jeremy Cornell (Martinsburg) were selected as First Team All-Stars. Corey Grace (Wayne) was selected for the Second Team All-Stars. Bradley Grey (Elkins) was the 3-point shot winner.
The Lions also placed in the Team 21, Foul Shooting, Lay-up and 3-point Shooting Competitions and receiving plaques to represent these accomplishments.
Fifteen schools throughout the eastern states are members of the ESDAA. They are Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Delaware and Rhode Island.
The mission of the ESDAA is to provide all member schools and respective athletes with challenging tournament and championship competitions. These competitions center on good sportsmanship, ethical behavior and integrity as advocated by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Association.
