State's Milken Winners to be Honored at Dinner

West Virginia's four 1999 Milken National Educator Award winners will be honored at an awards dinner on Thursday, November 11, at the Charleston Marriott.
The award winners include: Larry Fernandez, principal at Weir Middle School; Darlene Martin, mathematics teacher at Grafton High School; Nancy Moore, science teacher at Walton Elementary/Middle School; and Wayne Yonkelowitz, science teacher at Fayetteville Middle School. These outstanding educators are the latest recipients of a $25,000 unrestricted financial award from the Milken Family Foundation.
Governor Cecil H. Underwood, First Lady Hova Underwood, State Superintendent Dr. Henry Marockie, West Virginia Board of Education members, legislative leaders, representatives from the Milken Family Foundation, educational leaders from throughout the state and other dignitaries are expected to be in attendance.
The dinner concludes a half-day conference sponsored by the Milken Family Foundation at the Charleston Marriott. Education leaders from across the state will be participating in the program, which will be held from noon to 5 p.m.
