Johnson Elected State Board Vice-President

Lowell JohnsonCharleston, W. Va- The West Virginia Board of Education elected Dr. Lowell Johnson as its vice president for the 2004-2005 term. The Board also elected Barbara Fish as its president and Priscilla Haden as its secretary.  

Dr. Johnson joined the state Board of Education in January 2004. Johnson, a native of Greenbrier County, holds a bachelorís degree in education from Concord College, a masterís in guidance and counseling, and a doctorate in reading and psychology from WVU. He taught in the public school system in Greenbrier County, was a professor at Fairmont State College for 11 years and taught at Bluefield State College, where he was chair of the Division of Education.  

Johnson served as president of the West Virginia Education Association for four years and served on the National Education Board of Directors. He was most recently the Assistant Secretary for Ports in the West Virginia Department of Transportation.
