The West Virginia Board of Education Redirects the State School Review Process
Posted: May 18, 2004
Charleston, W.Va. - The West Virginia Board of Education is revamping Policy 2320: A Process for Improving Education – Performance Based Accreditation System in response to House Bill 4001. House Bill 4001 will be implemented on July 1, 2004.
The legislation adjusts the accountability system to mirror the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. Performance audits will be targeted to schools persistently below performance standards and focus on factors that directly impact student performance.
Proposed changes to Policy 2320 align with the new legislation.
Meanwhile, the Board of Education suggests that some of the more stringent elements of Policy 2320 remain in place for those counties under state control in order to confirm that all the necessary changes have been made as stated in the original agreement.
Policy 2320 has been placed out on comment for 30 days. School administrators and parents are encouraged to review the document and make suggestions on improving the policy. You can find the policies by logging onto http://wvde.state.wv.us/policies/
