A West Virginia student transportation system has been recognized as one of the top bus fleets in America by a national trade publication.
Kanawha County Schools' transportation program is one of 50 systems across the country recognized in the October/November 1999 issue of School Bus Fleet magazine.
"By being featured in this outstanding trade publication, Kanawha County's bus system is recognized as one of the most efficient systems in America," said State Superintendent Dr. Henry Marockie. "Not only does Kanawha County operate a cost-efficient transportation system, but it has also maintained an outstanding safety record."
Kanawha County's pupil transportation system received an outstanding evaluation in January 1999 by an independent, national consulting firm, said Wayne Clutter, executive director of school transportation and facilities for the West Virginia Department of Education.
"According to this report by an independent consulting firm, Kanawha County has the most efficient system in the state and superior management practices," Clutter explained. "I commend this system's director, George Beckett, his outstanding supervisors and exemplary bus operators and maintenance personnel for being recognized nationally for their hard work."
