Charleston, W.Va.- The West Virginia Board of Education applauds the St. Marys Correctional Centerís Institutional Education Program for Special Needs Adults. The West Virginia Adult Education Association recently named the program the 2003 Adult Education Program of the Year.
The West Virginia Department of Educationís Office of Institutional Education Programs has worked since January 2000 to develop the education program at the facility. Innovative uses of curriculum, instruction and technology for low functioning and non-reading students have resulted in significant improvements in reading, math and survival skills for several participants.
St. Marys Correctional Center was awarded the Program of the Year by the West Virginia Adult Education Association in 2001 and received national accreditation from the Correctional Education Association in 2002.
