WVDE Leadership Conference: School/School System Leaders Update

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A truly exciting agenda is finalized for the School/School System Leader strand of the WVDE Leadership Conference. The last presenter has been secured and the meeting facility is preparing to host nearly 400 West Virginia�s school/school system leaders. The conference is scheduled for July 22-24 at the Charleston Civic Center.

For the central office staff, school principals, and assistant principals who have not as yet registered, the registration deadline has been extended.

�I think this is one of the very best agendas we�ve designed for school system and school level professionals who form the support team for WV teachers,� said Karen Larry, Executive Assistant to the State Superintendent, �Our school leaders will be able to hear nationally known speakers and well-respected practitioners in addition to learning how to help teachers successfully implement a standards-based classroom that is directly aligned to the criteria referenced assessment.�

This agenda includes learning how to conduct �walkabouts� that confirm Content Standards and Objectives instruction is occurring. Monongalia County Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sharon Harsh, a highly respected WV educator, is working with the WVDE on this initiative.
