WVDE Leadership Conference: School/School System Leaders Update Posted: June 09, 2003 CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A truly exciting agenda is finalized for the School/School System Leader strand of the WVDE Leadership Conference. The last presenter has been secured and the meeting facility is preparing to host nearly 400 West Virginia’s school/school system leaders. The conference is scheduled for July 22-24 at the Charleston Civic Center. For the central office staff, school principals, and assistant principals who have not as yet registered, the registration deadline has been extended. “I think this is one of the very best agendas we’ve designed for school system and school level professionals who form the support team for WV teachers,” said Karen Larry, Executive Assistant to the State Superintendent, “Our school leaders will be able to hear nationally known speakers and well-respected practitioners in addition to learning how to help teachers successfully implement a standards-based classroom that is directly aligned to the criteria referenced assessment.” This agenda includes learning how to conduct ‘walkabouts’ that confirm Content Standards and Objectives instruction is occurring. Monongalia County Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sharon Harsh, a highly respected WV educator, is working with the WVDE on this initiative.
