The same grading scale will be used by all schools for high school courses taken for credit. Meanwhile, county boards of education will be given the discretionary authority to issue weighted grades for courses they choose according to county policy.
A uniform grading scale will level the playing field for all students in West Virginia, said Board President Howard Persinger. In the past, we have raised the bar in academic achievement and our students have continually met and surpassed the expectations and this is no exception.
The grading scale for non-weighted grades will be as follows:

I commend the Board of Education for its thorough investigation into this area, said State Schools Superintendent David Stewart. Policy 2515 is a true collaboration of state, county and local school systems.
The new grading policy will take effect July 1, 2003.
