Posted: September 10, 2002
Applications for the West Virginia Schools of Excellence Program are now available at county superintendents’ offices and the West Virginia Department of Education. The West Virginia Schools of Excellence Program identifies and recognizes outstanding schools and facilitates communication and sharing of best practices within and among schools.
To be eligible for the program, schools must have current accreditation status, and subtests and basic skills tests must be at or above the 50th percentile. They also must have an attendance rating of at least 93 percent, and they must be in their sixth full year of operation.
Last year, 18 West Virginia schools were named Schools of Excellence and continue to serve as exemplary models of teaching and learning for the state’s educators.
The deadline for applications is February 28, 2003. For more information, please contact Mr. Tony Smedley, Executive Director of the Office of Human Resources, at (304) 558-2702.
